Breed Overview
Cockatiels are small, social birds that are native to Australia. They are known for their distinctive crests and playful personalities. Because they are ground feeders, meaning they choose to forage on the ground, they must be swift and agile fliers to avoid predators. They can mimic a variety of sounds and the males can learn to say words and phrases.

Gray Cockatiel ~ 20-23 years old
JoJo is a timid and shy old man who is slowly coming out of his shell. He is currently being pampered and showered with love and treats at the sanctuary.
FAVORITE PASTIMES: JoJo is a sucker for millet spray. The moment I open the jar, he comes waddling over for his fair share. He lives cage-free in our bird room and enjoys perching up high for a midday nap.
JOJO'S STORY: JoJo belonged to one owner his entire life. It is believed that he is around 20-23 years old. Although he was much loved, he was kept in a small cage all those years, never let out, never handled. Because of this JoJo was overweight from an all-seed diet and had weak muscles due to lack of exercise. When his owner passed away, no one else in the family knew how to care for JoJo. Now that he is with us, JoJo enjoys a cage-free life in our bird room, a healthy diet, and plenty of flying exercise to build muscles. He lives with a flock and enjoys singing along with them and foraging for extra food dropped on the floor.
