Sammy
Green Cheek Conure ~ 17 years old
SAMMY'S STORY: For the first 15 years of Sammy's life, he was kept in a cage without exercise and fed an inappropriate diet. The neglect led him to feather plucking, and he is now almost completely bare on his chest, belly, and legs. But Sammy got a new lease on life when a family member saw his suffering and offered to take him in. That is where Sammy's life turned around and truly began.

His new owner never planned on having a parrot for a pet, but knew it was the right thing to do in order to save Sammy. In the 1.5 years she cared for Sammy, she did everything right. She educated herself on conure behavior, took him to the vet, got him the right food, toys, and habitat. She allowed him to be a free range bird, learning to fly and soaring around her apartment. She even made him a bell pepper "pumpkin" full of seeds for Halloween! How cute is that?
Sammy's previous owner still comes to visit him at the sanctuary. She wishes dearly she could have kept him, but knew he needed to be somewhere with other birds, where he wasn't left alone waiting for his owner to get home from work. We'll be working with Sammy and hopefully his feathers will regrow in no time. But even if they do not, we still love this naked chicken and his antics!
