Breed Overview
Yellow-naped Amazons are native to the Pacific side of Central America and northern South America. They primarily live in southern Mexico and northwest Costa Rica. Amazon parrots can be extremely loud and are often re-homed due to aggression issues.

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Amazona ochrocephala auropalliata
ADULT SIZE: 12 to 15 inches, weighing about 1 pound
LIFE EXPECTANCY: 50 to 60 years or longer with the proper care; some even reach the age of 90!

Sergio is a talkative, inquisitive bird with a brave spirit. He's extremely healthy and energetic for being "middle-aged." He has an adorable deep, scruffy voice which he uses to say lots of words like, "Awkward!"
SERGIO'S STORY: Sergio has only known two owners in his life. He was born around 1983 and lived with his first owner for 14 years. Then he was adopted by his most recent owner, Charlene, who loved and cared for him deeply ever since. Sergio's unique personality brought his mom and her friends so much joy and happiness over the years.
Sergio struggles with hormonal behavior and aggression, and we are teaching him basic skills that he never learned. Since Sergio has an import band on his leg, that tells us he was brought into the U.S. before laws and protections were put into place for importing wild parrots. It is likely Sergio was taken from the wild as a baby and sold into the pet trade. This could be why Sergio has so much difficulty with basic pet life.
In a perfect world, we would love to see Sergio living in a warmer climate in an outdoor aviary where he can fly and be with other Amazons like him. If you know of a place like this, please contact us.
