📝 Bongo's Story: Bongo has been with one family most of his life, but due to his owner's health, they were worried they wouldn't be able to care for him properly. He is a lovable, charismatic character, and we love having him at the sanctuary!
✨ Temperament: Bongo can be shy at first, but he warms up quickly to people who are confident and patient. He will accept head scratches and some preening, and will step up when he's in the mood. He loves to be in the main family room, where the people are. He loves watching all the humans and chatting with them. He will sit on the top of his enclosure happily, just enjoying being involved with the family.
🎶 Talks/Sings?: Bongo is a TALKER. Sometimes he does not have an "off" button! So if you want someone to chat with for most of the day, Bongo might be right for you! Or if you have another Amazon who needs a conversation buddy. His vocabulary is very extensive. He sings Popeye the Sailor Man, Zip a dee do da, says pretty bird , give me kiss, let me out of here, come in and a few other things. And talks/mumbles when you are on the phone as if he were talking too.
🥜 Favorite Treats: Bongo loves a high value treat like fatty nuts, but due to his health status, he is restricted.
💡 Best Fit: Bongo will need a home where he can be center of attention. His enclosure should be located in the family hub, where everyone gathers. He likes to feel like he's a part of whatever is happening. He will need a home that delights in his constant chatter, not one where he is told to be quiet. He needs to feel free to be himself! He also needs an owner who is comfortable handling birds, toweling them, and giving nail trims.
🐦 Can Live with Other Birds?: Bongo is great with other birds!
📢 Noise Level: Bongo can be LOUD. He likes to yell when his humans are out of sight.
🐦 Best Quirk: Bongo has "frilly pants." Due to his genetics, the feathers on his legs floof out instead of lay flat. This makes him look like he has fluffy pants!

🏠 Cage & Play Area Needs: Bongo needs a medium-sized enclosure with a perch and play area on top. He likes to hang out on top during the day and will put himself to bed at night.
🩺 Health Notes: Bongo has unfortunate genetics, but they do not pose a health risk. He needs the feathers around his bottom trimmed once a month, so someone who has experience handling birds is a must. If his bottom feathers are not kept trimmed and tidy, waste will build up and cause irritation. Bongo also has fatty lumps that are benign. There is a supplement that may help, but it's not a given. He has been seen by our avian vet and cleared for adoption.

Breed Overview
Blue-fronted Amazons are intelligent, charismatic parrots native to South America. Known for their bright green feathers, distinctive blue forehead, and flashes of yellow around the face, they are famous for their big personalities and impressive talking abilities. Blue-fronted Amazons can be affectionate, playful, funny, and deeply bonded to their people—but they can also be loud, demanding, territorial, and prone to challenging hormonal behavior. Their intelligence means they need plenty of social interaction, enrichment, and opportunities to chew, forage, and explore. With lifespans spanning several decades, they are also an enormous long-term commitment. Unfortunately, these traits mean many Amazons are surrendered or rehomed when their needs or behaviors become more than their families anticipated.
