Foghorn
🦜 Species: Blue and Gold Macaw
🎂 Age: 30+ (could be as old as 72!)
👫 Sex: M
📏 Size: extra large
📝 Foghorn's Story: Foghorn has been with the same loving family for 30 years, and he is ready for his next adventure. His leg band says he was born in 1953! We aren't sure if this is accurate, but it very well could be. Either way, Foghorn is a beautiful and healthy bird, with spectacular feathers and personality. He has a lot of life left in him, and he's looking for a family who will love him until his last days.
✨ Temperament: A bit shy, but warms up quickly. Foghorn is a gentleman, letting you know what he wants with his body language. He likes to be involved with anything his human is doing, and loves to ride on his owner's shoulder.
🎶 Talks/Sings?: Foghorn loves to talk! He says a few adorable words like "Hi!" "Come here," "Step up"
🥜 Favorite Treats: Foghorn is very food motivated! He loves to taste test anything, and loves foraging for nuts in his foraging toys.
💡 Best Fit: A bird owner who is willing to care for an elderly bird. While Foghorn is in great health, his age means his next caregiver may be his last. He will require yearly vet checkups and possible medication, so someone who is financially stable is a must. Macaws are huge commitments and demand one-on-one attention for most of the day. Someone who works from home and can dedicate a lot of time to Foghorn is ideal. Foghorn will be a 24/7 companion, not just an off-and-on pet.
🐦 Can Live with Other Birds?: Foghorn has done wonderfully with the other birds at the sanctuary.
📢 Noise Level: Foghorn lives up to his name! He isn't the noisiest macaw we've had at the sanctuary, but he can definitely squawk to demand attention. But if he is getting the enrichment he deserves, his yelling is minimal.
🐦 Best Quirk: Foghorn loves to tilt and bob his head and act silly!
🥦 Diet: Hagen Tropican Large Lifetime Pellets, Bird Street Bistro cooked food, fresh veggies, fruits, nuts.
🏠 Cage & Play Area Needs: Foghorn will need an extra-large macaw enclosure. He will need climbing ropes and large parrot perches when he is out of he enclosure for the day. Plenty of toys for chewing and foraging toys filled daily.
🩺 Health Notes: Foghorn has had issues with gut bacteria in the past, which will need to be monitored, but he is currently in perfect health.
